Sonnet 232

We form a lyric couplet, you and I,
Our love inscribed within a living song;
Abreast in meter, matched in perfect rhyme,
Two spirits joined in life, as in a poem.
Each line so writ in complement to prove
With each to follow each in blessed form,
Where every word’s a metaphor for love
And similes sublime our thoughts adorn.
Yet when our volta comes, how will we fare?
My hope is that we brave it light and true
So that sweet joys and dreams beyond compare
Proclaim our verse when time bids us adieu.
May future eyes that love can still amaze
Recite these lines in wonder and in praise.
