Sonnet 318

What guiding lantern brings two hearts together,
That joyous torch which shows the blind the way?
Much like a sunbeam cleaving stormy weather,
Gold beams of warmth that herald better days.
Love’s biding hope begs we not sail alone,
That somewhere on this broad wide oceaned time
There glides a kindred spirit yet unknown
Whose destined charter leads to shores sublime.
But what warm winds bring sweet propinquity,
What essence bides but to make this the one?
Of all the lonely vessels on the sea
What Aldis lamp shall guide a rover home?

On what horizon shines that evermore

Which marks the light of one whom we adore?

Sonnet 317

Where are you roaming now my love, pray tell?
Now that sleek silver willows herald spring,
The snow has just retreated from the dell
And in the forest, winsome voices sing.
Upon the heath, sweet flowers soon will bloom
And naked trees will blush in sportive green,
Proud branches bow in wedding garb festooned,
To hold gloved hands ‘round ponds where swans convene.
Now is the time that love shall bless the land
As so it has from mystic days afore,
Bewitching thus broad fields in madness grand
Where loving hearts will dance and souls adore.
I dream of times when all the world was right…
As tearful memories blur and sting my sight.
